Blue Skies, Hot Attractions, New Center Yield Huge Success

The 2004 Washington Auto Show, which saw a phenomenal increase in attendance for the 10-day show of nearly one-third over the best year ever at the old convention center.

Auto Show Chairman George Doetsch summed it up succinctly: “It was the best result we have achieved in 62 years!

The new center provided the venue to surpass the expectations of everybody on the WANADA Auto Show Committee. We had a very positive response from Washington area car lovers for both the auto show and The Snow Ball gala.”

“Our show of 'firsts' will certainly be judged one of the best,” said Barbara Pomerance, public relations and promotions manager. “A longer run, a magnificent new venue and more than 50 special events, contests, entertainers and promotions helped drive attendance to record levels, with tremendous crowd response.

“The car giveaways are always a favorite, as were our sports headliners like NASCAR Winston Cup Champion Matt Kenseth and the Redskins' Darrell Green. The XM Satellite Radio Stage was a big hit, too, with an extensive range of entertainment styles,” she said.

“We also forged important new partnerships with sponsors and received unprecedented support and participation from the downtown business development groups and the Washington Convention and Tourism Corporation. With almost 100 banners in the downtown area heralding The Washington Auto Show, we clearly made an impact," said Pomerance.
