NOTICE to Dealer Members
Dealers are no
longer required to send certified letters to customers informing them that the
DC DMV has rejected the tag and title application made on their behalf by the
dealer for a vehicle purchase because of motor vehicle violations on the
customer's record. The responsibility is squarely on the customer to clear up
any outstanding issues with the DC DMV and get their used vehicle inspection.
To assist dealers in
this process, WANADA has prepared a camera ready handout, which you can
download from this site, for member dealers that details the responsibilities
of DC residents and makes it clear that it is not the dealer's responsibility
for getting inspections done in DC.
Dealers are free to continue to offer these services to their customers,
but they are not required to do so.

NOTICE
COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA — DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR
VEHICLES
Purchase of 30-Day Temporary and Temporary Transport Plates
Due to recent problems with the fraudulent application for,
and use of, 30-day temporary and temporary transport plates, the
Department of Motor
Vehicles (DMV) will implement a revised process for purchasing these
plates and a revised Dealer Application for Temporary
Registration/Transport Plates (DSD - 4). You should have received a copy
of the revised form in the mail. You are authorized to make photocopies of
the form. It is also available on
DMV's web site and on
the web site of the
Motor Vehicle Dealer Board (MVDB). [Click on the
"Dealer/Salesperson Info" button, then click on the "Forms" button or
simply click on this hotlink:
COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA — DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES
DEALER APPLICATION FOR TEMPORARY REGISTRATION/TRANSPORT PLATES
The new measures are designed to help prevent unauthorized
persons from purchasing plates by using your dealership information. The
significant differences are:
-
DMV/MVDB will
no longer accept cash, a non-dealer check, or a non-dealer credit card
for payment. Payment must be made with a dealership imprinted check or a
credit card in the dealership's name.
-
The individual
authorized by the dealership to pick up these plates will be required to
show a valid driver's license. Our teller will note on the application
the individual's driver's license number and the state that issued it.
-
Effective
April 8, 2004, only the revised application form and types of payment
noted above will be accepted.
We appreciate your cooperation in this matter. Should you
have any questions, do not hesitate to contact Ms. JeAnne Marshall, at
(804) 367-1833. |
