Fitzgerald Auto Malls Named Montgomery County’s First Certified Green Dealer

September 16, 2026

Fitzgerald Auto Malls today announced that it has earned Gold-level certification under the Montgomery County Green Business Certification Program, administered by Bethesda Green in partnership with the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection. With this achievement, Fitzgerald becomes Montgomery County’s first certified Green Dealer.

The certification recognizes businesses that demonstrate a measurable, ongoing commitment to reducing their environmental impact through initiatives such as energy efficiency, waste reduction and recycling, environmentally responsible purchasing, and sustainable business practices. Participating businesses are evaluated and certified at one of four levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum, based on the depth and effectiveness of their environmental efforts.

“Being named a Gold-certified Green Business, and Montgomery County’s first certified Green Dealer, is a proud moment for our entire Fitzgerald team,” said Rob Smith, President of Fitzgerald Auto Malls. “This recognition reflects years of intentional effort by employee owers across all of our locations. It reinforces something we’ve believed since 1966: how we serve people, our communities, and our environment matters. Our guests in Montgomery County care about sustainability, and this certification demonstrates our commitment to sharing those values. Simply put, it’s the right thing to do.”

Since 1966, Fitzgerald Auto Malls has been driven by a simple belief: that how we serve people matters. We have helped customers across Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Florida find transportation solutions they can trust. We are proud to be Montgomery County’s first certified Green Dealer and to maintain ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications. Guided by our commitment to excellence, community, and environmental responsibility, we strive every day to make a positive difference and leave this earth better than we found it.

In 2023 Fitzgerald Auto Malls became an employee-owned company.  Family founded, employee owned and customer driven describes the heart of Fitzgerald.
